France v Iraq — no value in the result

The 9:00am kick-off is a non-event as a betting heat. Opta gives France an 88.5% win chance, draw 8.5%, Iraq just 3%, and the market agrees: at 1.08 there is simply nothing in the outcome. Iraq are at their first World Cup since 1986 and arrive bruised from a 4-1 loss to Norway. If you want a piece of this one, the France goals and scorer lines are the only sensible way in — Kylian Mbappé is already France’s all-time top scorer after his brace against Senegal and will fancy adding to the tally.

Norway v Senegal — the day’s one real contest

Here’s where Kiwi punters should spend their attention. The midday fixture is the only properly balanced game on the card (2.04 / 3.41 / 3.22), and the numbers back that up: Opta has Norway at 45.0%, the draw at 25.4% and Senegal at 29.6%. Erling Haaland has scored in 11 straight competitive games for Norway, who have themselves won their last 11 — that anytime-scorer market on Haaland reads very nicely against a Senegal side that has to chase the game.

Jordan v Algeria — a tea-time filler

The 3:00pm finale is one for completists. Algeria are short at 1.47 with Riyad Mahrez back in the side after being rested against Argentina, while Jordan — whose Ali Olwan scored their first-ever World Cup goal — are rank outsiders at 6.24. There’s little value at the prices; treat it as a watch-and-enjoy rather than a serious play.
